Requirements for Free Braces

Who gets free braces?

Since July 1, 2015, free braces have been available in Austria. This provides significant financial relief for thousands of families and offers all young people under 18 the opportunity to correct dental misalignments and thus spend their future lives with a beautiful smile.

Every patient can have an orthodontic consultation once before their 18th birthday.

The following requirements must be met to receive free braces:

• At the start of treatment (placement of the braces), the patient must be under 18 years old.
• The teeth must have a complex misalignment according to the "Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need" (=IOTN 4 & 5).

Where can you get free braces and what should you consider?

When choosing your orthodontist, make sure they are one of the few contract institutions for free braces. More information about the selection and providers can be found here:
